Warehouse (WMS)

Purpose & Scope​

The Warehouse module streamlines inbound, storage, and outbound operations. Mobile workflows (Picker app) drive paperless receiving, put‑away, picking, packing, transfers, counts, and replenishment.

Who Uses This​

Warehouse managers, supervisors, pickers/packers, inventory controllers.

Key Capabilities​

  • Inbound: ASN/PO receiving, barcode label print, lot/expiry capture, quality checks.
  • Put‑Away: System‑guided locations by rules (ABC, temperature, hazard, velocity).
  • Storage: Bin/location management, capacity, cycle counts, quarantines/holds.
  • Picking: Wave/batch/zone picking, FIFO/FEFO, mobile scanner support.
  • Packing & Shipping: Pack verification, cartonization, waybills, handoff to carrier.
  • Transfers: Inter‑warehouse and bin‑to‑bin moves; CSV import/export for bulk ops.
  • Counts & Adjustments: Periodic and rolling counts; approval workflows.
  • Alerts & Analytics: Low stock, expiry alerts, stock discrepancies, productivity.

Data Model & Core Entities​

  • Warehouse → Area → Aisle → Rack → Bin/Location
  • Item (SKU, unit, lot/serial, expiry) with stock per location.
  • Inbound (Receipt), Transfer, Pick Task, Pack, Shipment.

End‑to‑End Workflows​

  1. Receive: Scan ASN/PO → verify qty/quality → print labels → book into receiving.
  2. Put‑Away: Mobile task assigns optimal bin → confirm placement → stock on hand updates.
  3. Pick: Release wave → picker scans bins → confirm picks → exceptions auto‑log.
  4. Pack/Ship: Verify items/quantities → print packing list/waybill → handoff to Logistics.
  5. Count: Trigger cycle count set → investigate variances → approve adjustments.

Tips & Edge Cases​

  • Use FEFO for perishable items; enforce lot/expiry scan at pick.
  • Apply wave picking for dense, multi‑order batches; zone picking for large sites.
  • Run rolling cycle counts to reduce full physicals and minimize disruption.
